Euthanasia Between the Principle of Autonomy and the Principle of Human Dignity: (A Critical Analytical Study)
Keywords:
القتل الرحيم، وحرية الاختيار، والكرامة الإنسانيةAbstract
This study examines the issue of euthanasia from a critical, analytical, and philosophical perspective by exploring the relationship between personal autonomy and human dignity, whereby it critically analyzes the arguments favoring euthanasia, particularly those grounded in the principle of personal autonomy as advanced by Peter Singer and Ronald Dworkin, while evaluating opposing arguments based on human dignity, including those of Immanuel Kant and proponents of Natural Law Theory, thereby proposing an original philosophical concept, namely autonomous dignity, as a conceptual framework that reconciles the protection of human dignity with respect for the patient's informed and autonomous will, aiming to reconstruct the ethical debate on euthanasia beyond the conventional dichotomy of approval and rejection, and ultimately seeking to enrich contemporary ethical discussions on end-of-life issues by introducing a new conceptual framework responsive to the complexities of the human experience.
