الملخص

Summary:

This research paper tries to state the space of theatre in England that changed during the twentieth century and shows what the real meaning of that change is. It begins with furnishing the rooms of drawing in Edwardian drama, then moving through the realism of post-war society on Beckett's and Pinter's stages, along with their experiments during the 1980s and 1990s. This research paper argues that the change in the age of stage was not just a decision of aestheticism. This caused social and political anger and despair. The framework of the theoretical part examines how Henri Lefebvre's account of how the production of space actually belongs to society, and the concept of heterotopia by Michel Foucault, along with the concept of materialism by Raymond Williams, are related to the culture of history. The ideology of the drawing room was really revealed in terms of these two concepts. This research paper tries to focus on a few iconic literary works to find out the change in the space of the drawing during the post-war period. What is a picture of theatre in the space as something more than scenery: a medium through which English culture negotiated — and continues to negotiate — its most urgent questions about class, belonging, and the nature of modern life.
